Types of Chassis There are two general styles of chassis. A formed opened ended chassis found in the Marshall 18 Watt Combo as well as several other combos and a box type with welded in ends and out turned mounting flanges typical for many head type amplifiers. I'm currently looking at producing a Fender-esque chassis - aluminum with a angled front - we'll see how the prototype goes!

This is generally sufficiently strong for all but the largest chassis and has the the added benefit of being easy to work with simple tools. I add all holes in my personal stuff with drill bills, a Uni-bit and a couple of hole saws. My intention has been to provide un-drilled or punched chassis allowing the DIY-er the maximum level of flexibility and cost savings. Most everyone has a drill but not everyone has access to a shear and brake. The box style has welded in ends that are ground smooth.
